Women’s Shoe Trends For 2019

Women’s Shoe Trends For 2019

Buying shoes is certainly something that women have perfected over the years and getting shoe trends right each season is definitely what it’s all about.

2019 has been a great year for women’s footwear fashion, not only have we seen a 70’s resurgence with block heeled sandals and cool ladies canvas pumps this spring and summer, but we’ve also got a lot from the autumn and winter months too. With chelsea boots remaining a wardrobe staple and embroidery making a huge appearance, you won’t be short of inspiration!

Each season brings with it a new and exciting array of footwear and occasions on which to wear them. Choosing wisely for the seasons is not always easy, so let us help you!

Here we’re really excited to take a look at what hot footwear trends are out there for each season of the year. From summer sandals to winter boots, we’ve got you covered.

Spring

Women’s Shoe Trends for Spring 2019

Spring can be a tough season to dress for; the weather can be sunny one day and stormy the next and knowing which colours to choose can be a demanding task. However, we're here to talk about some of the women’s footwear trends for Spring 2019 to keep your style in check.

Buying shoes for spring can be a difficult one, the great British weather isn’t the most predictable so it’s important that the footwear trends reflect that too.

One big trend this spring time is canvas shoes. Perfect for keeping your feet warm in cooler climates and yet equally perfect for keeping your feet cool in warmer weather too. This year it’s all about bright colours and flower power, taking you right back to the swinging 60’s!

Court Shoe

Sticking with the 60’s revival, chunky round toe court shoes with a big buckle make the biggest style statement when paired with opaque tights and a simple block colour shift dress. Or if you really fancy channelling your inner boho chic, you could easily team them with a flowing gypsy dress and a tasseled handbag too.

If you’re out on a Valentine's date, it might be that you want something formal yet substantial enough to stand up to any adverse weather while keeping it fresh and light. Low ladies ankle boots (often called shoe boots) and open toe heeled boots make the perfect alternative when normal winter boots are just a little too much but you want a little protection. Both look great with leggings or skinny jeans.

A springtime favourite that will never go out of style is ballerina shoes. Versatile, comfortable and stylish, they’re great when you want to lighten up your footwear. Monotone and muted colours such as nude, pale blue and rose gold with pattern detailing such as lace, laser cutouts and perforations or ankle ties are a big favourite and the bigger the bow the better we say!

It would be unfair to pass spring 2019 without mentioning the huge comeback of the pointed toe. Whether it’s heeled boots or court shoes with a pointed toe, there’s one thing we know for sure; everyone needs to have a 1980’s throwback and what better way to do it than with a fabulous pair of new shoes!

Summer

Women’s Shoe Trends for Summer 2019

Summer is the best time to be experimental when it comes to the footwear you choose, and 2019 doesn’t disappoint! From funky, relaxed gladiator sandals to 1970’s inspired block heeled sandals, the summer of 2019 is all about versatile comfort while still making a style statement.

Whether you’re jetting off on holiday or you just fancy having a steady wander around the shops, gladiator sandals are a real godsend. Not only do they help keep your feet cool in the hot summer weather, but they’re super comfortable too. This year it’s all about metallics and embellishments but with so many different styles to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Wedge Sandals

With summer comes the BBQs and the trips out with the family, so comfortable footwear is always going to be important. Block heeled sandals and wedge sandals are a real hit right now and the great thing is, they’re really supportive for your feet too! A summer wardrobe staple of the 1970’s, block heeled sandals are extremely popular once again, especially in original 70’s colours such as brown, tan, burnt orange and black… Not forgetting the authentic wooden sole of course!

Wedge sandals are fantastic if you’re hoping for a more classic look this summer, super easy to wear and probably one the most versatile types of sandal, they can be dressed up or down and espadrille style wedges with a woven heel and tie around ankle strap work perfectly with a nice pair of high waisted shorts and a light top. They can also work equally well with dresses and ¾ length trousers.

Another big favourite this summer is ladies mules. Whether it’s the classic sleeve mule or the more robust slider mule there’s one thing for sure, we all love footwear that’s easy to take off and slip back into when we need to, especially if you’re at the beach or by the pool. Wear with leggings or ankle grazer jeans with an oversized T shirt for a funky, laid back urban look.

Whatever summer footwear you choose in 2019, crisp white footwear has never been so popular. White looks amazing against a tan and is also great for brightening up a darker outfit. Team white footwear with bold colours and prints for a crisp, fresh look. Check out shoe care guide for tips on how to keep your new white shoes looking box fresh and ready to go.

Autumn

Women’s Shoe Trends for Autumn 2019

Autumn is one of those transitional periods of the year that can make choosing the right footwear a little bit more difficult. This year, autumn footwear it all about traditional British styles such as brogues, loafers and chelsea boots.

Lace up brogues are a must have when it comes to shoes for autumn. With a decent sole and a robust upper, they’re perfect for work and look great with tailored trousers and a simple blouse. The same goes for loafers and added design elements such as bows, tassels and contrast stitching will really set them apart from the rest.

This year we’ve seen many styles from the past make a resurgence, and a big one for autumn this year is embroidery. Contrasting colours on a single colour background such as red on black will definitely ensure you stand out from the crowd. Team embroidered boots with pale denim and earthy colours for a chilled out 90’s vibe.

A big favourite this autumn is the ever faithful chelsea boot. Sleek, super comfortable and understated, they make the perfect footwear if you’re out and about and want to keep your feet warm and dry. Chelsea boots come in a vast range of colours and this year, embellishments such as studs and rhinestones are a big deal too! Pair them with a comfy pair of skinny jeans and your favourite sweater or tailored jacket for a little bit of equine chic.

Winter

Women’s Shoe Trends for Winter 2019

Preparing for the cold (and often wet!) winter weather can be difficult. Whether that means finding a new pair of trusty boots to see you through or picking out that showstopping Christmas party shoes, it’s important to get it right.

This winter it’s all about the bling. With glitter, rhinestones and studs playing a huge role in the style stakes and we’re not just talking about party shoes either. Blinged up boots and glittery ballerina pumps are the way to go. Making them a great choice if you’re looking for footwear that’s a little more dressy for those more formal occasions without compromising on comfort and warmth. They’re versatile too! You can easily pair them with tights and skirt as well as with skinny jeans and trousers.

A hugely popular style for winter boots this year is the (faux) fur or shearling lined variety. Plush, cosy and super comfy, a good pair of faux fur lined boots can be your best friend in winter. Couple that with appealing buckle detail and straps and you’ve got yourself a solid pair of winter boots that’s guaranteed to look the part.

Another type of footwear that’s making a comeback this year is the military boot. Favored for their relaxed style, they’re grungy, easy to wear and will certainly bring out your inner rock chick. The devil is in the detail with military boots; a robust sole and ankle straps will add that touch of authenticity.

Another throwback we’ve seen this year is the rise of knee high boots. The perfect footwear for dressing up or down, they’re comfortable, sassy and extremely flattering. Often found with functional design details such as laces and zips, they also come with different heel heights too. They’re the perfect choice for a relaxed new year's eve house party, not only will they look super stylish, they’ll also keep your feet and legs warm when you step outside to watch the fireworks! A double win!
